Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
In a significant political development ahead of the Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress has suffered a setback in the Kulti Assembly constituency after influential local leader Bumba Chowdhury joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with more than 500 supporters. The induction ceremony was conducted by BJP State President Bhattacharya at a party event in Kulti.
The programme was attended by Kulti MLA Ajay Poddar, District President Debtonu Bhattacharya and BJP state leader Krishnendu Mukherjee. Senior BJP leader Shamik Bhattacharya was present as the chief guest at a workers’ conference organised in view of the upcoming Assembly elections, signalling the party’s focus on strengthening its base in the region.
After formally joining the BJP, Bumba Chowdhury said, “Now we need change. This is a fight for survival.” His switch is being seen as politically significant in Kulti, where parties have begun intensifying organisational efforts ahead of the polls.
